This course is designed to give participants the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance skills, enabling tasks to be performed by lifting and slinging components and equipment in a safe and correct manner.

 

Objectives:

 

By the end of this course participants will be able to:

• Recognize safe working loads and lifting capabilities and limitations

• Recognize safe working procedures

• Recognize the recommended crane signals.

• Selecting and using chains and chain slings

• Using ‘Safe Working Load’ Charts

• Slinging and moving loads

• Calculating the weights and centers of gravity of loads and taking these factors into account of slinging and moving

same

 

Course Outline:

 

• Communication (Use of hand signals)

• An introduction to PUWER and LOLER Regulations, including the need for training and causes of accidents.

• Planning the lifts

• Machinery (Mobile and Tower Cranes)

• Types of slings (wire rope, round and webbing and chain slings)

• Sling load capacity and sling angles

• Lifting accessories and handling attachments

• Choice of sling

• Knots

• Center of gravity

• Slinging loads in a safe and efficient manner and protecting the load and sling

• Safe working practice

• Recognized method of signaling

• Written assessment

 

Who should attend?

 

Any employee who may be required to sling and lift workplace equipment as part of their normal work activities
